Cruise Excursions at St Maarten

Are you planning on taking a Caribbean Cruise? If so, you should learn as much as you can about the beautiful port of St. Maarten, also known as St. Martin. This Caribbean area is one of the most popular and welcomes flocks of tourists and cruise ship travelers. Check with your cruise line to find out if St. Maarten is one of your ports of call. If so, you should start planning your cruise excursions at St. Maarten ahead of time. An excursion is a period of time spent off the ship. The length of an excursion depends on the cruise.

St. Maarten is located in the eastern region of the Caribbean. It is shared by both France and the Netherlands. If you stop at a port of call on the Dutch side of the island, you will likely end up in Philipsburg which is that area's capital. The pier is located about a mile away from the city. You can walk or take a water shuttle to get to land. The first thing you'll find is a welcome center, shopping mall, restaurants and bars all catering to cruise ship tourists who are exploring the area. You will find Philipsburg easy to explore and brimming with local flavor and color. There are plenty of charming shops and beachfront establishments where you can find the perfect souvenir.

The capital on the French side is called Marigot and is less popular than Philipsburg. It is also much smaller, with room for only one ship at a time in its port. The environment here is one reminiscent of an old-fashioned French village. Whether you land in Philipsburg or Marigot, hitting the beach for some fun in the sun should definitely be on your itinerary. There are gorgeous beaches here including the breathtaking Orient beach. Some of St. Maarten's beaches are suitable for families, while others are clothing optional.

Cruise excursions at St. Maarten are some of the most exciting and enjoyable found anywhere. This is why so many Caribbean cruise ships stop here. There are many major cruise lines that offer this destination. They include Carnival, Disney, Princess, Holland America and more. Whether you take a guided tour of the area's most popular attractions or head off on your own in search of adventure, St. Maarten does not disappoint!
